SOFUS is a collaborative initiative between public healthcare institutions and the private company Enversion, based in Aarhus, Denmark.

The primary objective of this partnership is to develop an advanced system for the early detection of patients at risk of developing sepsis or organ failure. The timely administration of fluid therapy and antibiotics in sepsis management is crucial for improving patient survival rates and reducing morbidity.

Enversion, as the technical lead, has developed a system that utilizes patient data from Electronic Health Records (EHR) and analyzes it using artificial intelligence algorithms. When a risk is identified, the system sends a notification to clinicians (physicians or nurses) at the hospital via a mobile application. The SOFUS algorithm, developed by Enversion, demonstrates high predictive accuracy for sepsis development up to 24 hours before onset, with an Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUROC) curve ranging from 0.80 to 0.92. This level of predictive power indicates a strong ability to discriminate between patients who will develop sepsis and those who will not.
